About the HealthSheetsTM

Patient Select provides you with nearly 100 print-on-demand Krames HealthSheetsTM covering 17 health conditions commonly seen in the physician’s office. Krames is the market leader in patient education, with more than 30 years of experience producing and marketing patient education products to hospitals, physicians and health plans:

  • Over 300,000 healthcare professionals choose Krames patient education.
  • Krames products are found in over 80% of U.S. hospitals.

Accurate Evidence-Based Content

Krames follows a rigorous four-stage development process to ensure medical accuracy of its evidence-based content.

  • Stage 1: Determining market need and conducting research Krames products are research based. A full-time library staff compiles information from government institutions; academies; current medical, health and safety journals; conferences and scientific sessions. Lay literature is also researched to help identify what the general public already knows.
  • Stage 2: Content development All Krames content is created in conjunction with medical experts, and is developed to meet current practice guidelines and standards of care of leading medical organizations. Experienced consultants provide the authoritative voice behind content throughout the development process. Content specialists with extensive experience in specific subject matter may also be called upon to help refine information.
  • Stage 3: Science and usability review Before Krames content is put into circulation, it is submitted to 8 to 15 practicing specialists who review for consistency with practice standards and factual accuracy. They also ensure content reflects the patient experience. A review team can include experts in several disciplines. For example, breast cancer content is reviewed by breast cancer specialists, oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurses and breast reconstruction surgeons.
  • Stage 4: Ongoing review/updates To assure content continues to meet market needs and adhere with specialty practice guidelines, it is regularly reviewed and updated.

Superior Content Design to Support Health Literacy

Krames integrates Doak, Doak & Root Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) methodology to ensure the accessibility of education by the end user. SAM evaluation criteria covers six areas:

  • Content: Krames' behavior-based approach goes beyond medical facts and empowers patients to take a more active role in their care and recovery. The purpose of each product is clear to the patient and the scope is limited to information that helps achieve this purpose.
  • Literacy demand: Krames' content is developed at fourth- to eighth-grade reading levels, using readability scales such as FOG and Fleisch-Kincaid. Experienced medical writers expertly explain complex medical concepts in plain language.
  • Graphics: Illustrations are used to reinforce key messages visually. Krames’ award-winning anatomical artwork is produced by highly-trained illustrators who hold Masters of Arts degrees in medical illustration. Other graphic elements are sometimes used in conjunction with directions. For example, nutrition titles describing how to read food labels show a sample label.
  • Layout: The HealthSheets give equal weight to words and pictures, so readers gain a clear understanding of conditions, procedures and treatments. Visual cues such as boxes, shading and colored text emphasize key points.
  • Learning stimulation and motivation: Various learning models are used to teach patients how to make lifestyle adjustments and successfully manage their conditions. In addition, Krames’ materials address the conflicting emotions that arise with an injury, diagnosis or chronic health condition. This helps individuals get past their fears and build necessary self-care skills.
  • Cultural appeal: Krames HealthSheets feature a variety of illustration styles to appeal to multiple audiences. Ethnically diverse models in familiar settings help make information personally relevant to readers.
